Hello…me again…

That’s twice in one week. I must be back!

Firstly, what do you think of my new toy? I can’t wait to pick it up. It’s a gorgeous Merida Crossways 10v and it’s been sat in the bikeshop waiting for me for 2 weeks now! I’ve bought it using the Ride To Work government initiative. My company is signed up to Cyclescheme so I get this beauty, a helmet and some mudguards for the princely sum of £18 a month. The only problem is that the certificate is taking forever to arrive and I want it NOW!!!!!!

I’m impatient for a good reason though…..

The busiest road in Dorset is currently shut for 5 weeks for resurfacing (how long I hear you shout??????). Unfortunately that road is also my route to work. The diversion is hideous, a good 5 or 6 miles longer and involves a right turn onto a very busy road…therefore they’ve had to install temporary lights which mean very very very long queues. My alternative is to drive to Studland and use the ferry but it is £2.70 each way (if I buy tickets in bulk in advance) which is a LOT of money. Therefore my plan is to drive to Studland, unload the bike from the car and ride along the prom to Bournemouth. Thereby actually SAVING myself money, getting some extra exercise and being kind to the environment too! Has anyone else bought a bike on this scheme? I think it’s an amazing way to save money and it’s nice to claw a bit back for once. I would never have bought myself such an expensive piece of kit, it’s very very different from the cheapie Halfords jobs I had when I was younger. I just hope I can remember how to ride!

I bought some of these Smart Lunar 25 lights on the recommendation of a fellow WLR er. Thanks Sam, they are awesome! I nearly blinded myself when I first put the batteries in. The rear says it’s visible from a mile away and I don’t dispute that so far!

Site Updates

I thought it was about time that I did some site updates. My ‘about me’ and ‘Races‘ pages were way out of date so I’ve twiddled with them a bit. I need to spend a bit more time thinking about the layout and what the site is for now that I’m no longer marathon training so expect more updates soon! (except that it will soon be time for THAT magazine to pop onto the doorstep ……..)

Erm – won’t you have to pay to park at Studland? or do you have a cunning plan?

Great plan with the cycling 🙂
Andy got a bike through a scheme like that with his old work, years ago, then he got made redundant but luckily got to keep the bike. BUt we have not been out on them in ages and now he works further away so no chance of cycling.

    Love the new bike 🙂

I’ve been to Bournemouth! It was an awkward weekend trip to visit a boy I was totally in love with haha.

    Hey Rose –

I did this throught the cycle to work scheme a few years ago – it’s gerat – saves you a lot of money (and if you got a pay rise this year… if… the pay rise will probably cover it!)

(Bit of a cheek me using cycle to work scheme, as i only live 10 minutes walk away, so by the time I unchain my bike, ride here, and chain up my bike, I’d have been quicker walking! – so I rarely use it to ‘cycle to work’).

I’m actually tempted to buy ANOTHER bike using the scheme, but I can’t help but think I’m being a bit greedy/silly….??!!! 😛

Hope you get it soon x
